年賀状
New Year's Cards
日本人はお正月に友達や会社の人などに年賀状を送ります。 年賀状は、新しい年の挨拶をするための手紙です。 12月になると郵便局などで年賀状用の葉書が買えます。 白い葉書に自分で絵や写真を印刷することもできます。
年賀状にはまず、新しい年の挨拶を大きく書きます。 「明けましておめでとうございます」がよく使われます。 この「明ける」と言うのは年が変わるという意味です。 「謹賀新年」もよく使われます。 「謹」は「丁寧に」という意味で、「賀」は「喜びを伝えます」という意味です。 だから、「謹賀新年」は「丁寧に新しい年の喜びを伝えます」という意味になります。
次に、前の年の感謝を伝えます。 「昨年は大変お世話になりました」と書くことが多いです。 親しい友達には「去年は一緒に旅行に行けて楽しかったね」などと書くことができます。 あまり会わない人には、「9月から犬を飼い始めました」など自分の近況を書くこともできます。
それから、変わらないお付き合いをお願いしたり、その人と家族の健康を願う文章を書きます。 「今年もよろしくお願いします」、「皆様のご健康をお祈りしています」などと書きます。 「お祈りしています」は「願っています」と同じです。
最後に「平成XX年 元旦」と日付を書くのを忘れてはいけません。 元旦までに届かない時は、「平成XX年 一 月 」と書いたりします。
日本 にいる場合 、年賀状 は大体 12月5日から12月25日までにポストの「年賀郵便」と書かれた方に入れます。 そうすると1月1日に着きます。 「年賀郵便」と書いていない所に入れるとお正月の前に届いてしまうので注意してください。
For New Year, Japanese people send New Year’s cards to their friends and people they work with. New Year’s cards are a letter that sends the new year’s greeting. In December, you can buy postcards for New Year’s cards at post offices, etc. You can print illustrations and photographs on blank postcards, too.
On a New Year’s card, you first write a New Year greeting in a large font. "Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu" is often used. “Akeru” here means that people have a new year. Kinga Shinnen is often used, too. “Kin” means politely, and “ga” means to convey one’s joy. So, kinga shinnen means “I politely express my joy for the new year to you.
Next, you express your appreciation for what the recipient has done in the previous year. People often write “Sakunen wa taihen osewa ni narimashita (Thank you for everything you have done for me in the previous year). For you close friends, you can write something like “It was fun that we traveled together last year.” For someone you do not see so often, you can tell how you have been, such as “I’ve got a dog last September.”
Then, you write a sentence which asks for continued interactions or convey your best wish for good health of the recipient and his or her family. People usually write things like “I look forward to being around you in the new year,” or “I wish you and your family good health.” Oinorishimasu has the same meaning as negatteimasu.
At the end, you cannot forget to write the date of the New Year, “Heisei Year XX, the Morning of January 1st.” If New Year’s cards are not expected to be delivered by the morning of January 1st, you can write “Heisei Year XX, January.”
If you are in Japan, you mail New Year’s cards to the slot marked “New Year Mail” in a mailbox. Then, those cards will be delivered on January 1st. If you don’t, they will be delivered before the new year, so you want to be careful.
