USJ Is World's Third Most Visited Theme Park
Osaka's Universal Studios Japan, also known as USJ, was the world's third most visited theme park in 2022, jumping up from 13th place in 2021.
The most visited theme park was Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Florida, and the second was Disneyland in California, according to a report by AECOM.
Over 12 million people visited USJ in 2022, which is home to attractions from world-famous Hollywood movies like Jurassic Park and Spiderman, as well as an area for Harry Potter.
While there are similar Universal Studios parks in other countries around the world, the Japanese park offers guests unique experiences not found anywhere else.
As well as its Hollywood attractions, USJ also has a variety of attractions featuring popular Japanese characters, like Sailor Moon and Doraemon.
And in 2021, the world's first Nintendo-themed area Super Nintendo World opened, which has been popular with visitors from both inside and outside Japan.
As USJ has become more popular, its ticket prices have increased, too.
The park uses dynamic pricing, where tickets cost more on days when more people are likely to visit the park.
On certain days, single tickets can cost as much as 10,400 yen, or around $73.
But this is cheaper than Japan's other big theme parks, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, where tickets cost up to 10,900 yen — around $76 — each.
And USJ is a lot cheaper than both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland in the US, where tickets cost over $100.
