New Coffee Released That Tastes Like Tea
A company in the US state of Texas has developed a new type of coffee that tastes similar to tea while having about the same amount of caffeine as a normal cup of coffee. Golden Ratio's new Gold Coffee is five times less acidic than black coffee and less bitter.
The new Austin-based company makes the coffee by roasting its beans at a cooler temperature for longer than normal.
Golden Ratio was started by Clark Nowlin, who thought of the idea when he was a musician. He found that the acidity of the coffee he drank while traveling around the US led to stomach problems and anxiety, so he gave up the drink.
However, a friend told him about a light roast coffee in the Pacific Northwest. He visited Seattle to try it and found coffee shops selling lightly roasted coffee with very low acid.
After tasting it, he wondered why it wasn't available across the country and decided to start a business to be the first to bring light roast coffee to the market.
Nowlin says the final product is nuttier and smoother than regular coffee. It has 100 milligrams of caffeine, while a normal cup of coffee has between 60 and 95 milligrams of caffeine.
Gold Coffee comes in a single serve "tea bag style" coffee pouch and can be made hot or cold. A hot cup takes about five to 10 minutes to make, while making a cold drink takes 12 to 18 hours.
