Japan Tops List of Countries Tourists Want to Revisit
Japan comes first among countries that tourists most want to revisit, according to a recent survey.
To discover how Japan is viewed around the world, advertising company Dentsu surveyed about 7,500 people in 15 countries and regions between January and March this year.
When participants were asked what country or region they would like to revisit, Japan was named by nearly 35% of them. Singapore came second, being named by almost 15% of travelers, and the US came third at 13%.
The top reason people gave for wanting to revisit Japan was because they had enjoyed their last visit to the country. Half of the survey participants said this. However, the weak yen was a very popular reason for participants in East Asia.
When asked what they expected from a visit to Japan, the top three answers were a variety of food, a unique culture, and unique natural scenery.
When asked what they wanted to spend their money on in Japan, the most popular answers were a typical Japanese restaurant, a farm stay experience, and the bullet train. Buying Japanese crafts was also a popular answer.
The prefecture that participants said they were most aware of was Tokyo. This was followed by Osaka, then Kyoto, Hiroshima and Hokkaido. These top five prefectures have stayed the same since Dentsu first conducted this survey in 2016.
When participants were asked what the main barriers were to traveling outside Japan's major cities, the most common answer was concerns about being able to communicate with people.
However, other popular answers suggest that a lack of information is also a major barrier to travel outside the big cities.
Many participants said they didn't know enough about areas of Japan outside cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. Others said there wasn't enough information available about activities outside the big cities. And others said they didn't know enough about Japan's road conditions and traffic rules.
