Chair Yoga Good for People of All Ages, Say Experts
Put your hands down on the ground, rest your knees on the backs of your arms, then slowly lift your feet into the air.
That's "crow pose," one of the more difficult yoga poses.
For many of us, that's just a bit too hard. But you don't need to be standing on your hands to enjoy yoga — you can even do it from your chair!
Chair yoga has become popular among older people, but experts say people of all ages can benefit from it.
In fact, you'll get just about the same benefits from chair yoga as you would from yoga on the floor, and you can adapt most poses to do them while sitting.
These benefits include things like reduced stress, better flexibility and strength, and perhaps even better sleep.
You can buy special yoga chairs online, but experts say you can easily use the chairs you already have at home or at work.
Chairs without arms may be best, since these allow you to safely do more poses.
Ansley Davis, a yoga instructor from the US, says people who spend a lot of time sitting while at work should feel a difference in their flexibility or in their breathing by doing chair yoga.
It could also help with aches and pains that come from spending a lot of time sitting down.
Another instructor, Stacie Dooreck, told CNN that it's best to do chair yoga every day. "Five minutes of chair yoga a day is better than doing it once a week for an hour," she said.
She added: "You want to create a habit. Once you do five minutes, people often want to do more because they feel better."
However, instructors say that if you begin to feel pain when you're doing chair yoga, you should stop right away.
